Egerton Rothesay School Parents Teacher Association

Welcome

Welcome back to the new school year!  It hardly feels as if we've had a break at all ... it seems like only yesterday that we were locking up Sarratt Village Hall following the hugely enjoyable Summer Party, and thinking that we could all take a breather before the Christmas Fayre.  So now we've had a breather (yes, really) and it's all hands to the pump once again, to raise funds for the benefit of our children and to have a good time along the way.

The PTA had a busy and successful year from Sep 2009 to Jul 2010.  In the autumn term, a number of ERS students took part in the “Art Projects For Schools” Christmas project, whereby their own artwork was printed professionally as Christmas cards for purchase by parents and friends.  The designs were fantastic, and were also used as wall decorations at the Christmas Fayre.  At the end of term it was very rewarding to run a “Secrets Room” and to resurrect the Christmas Fayre.  A large number of local Arts & Crafts traders joined us at the Fayre and offered a wonderful array of Christmas gifts.  There was an equally attractive array of school / PTA stalls - the Money Tree, the Jam Jar Tombola, Bottle Tombola, Good-As-New Tombola, Lucky Dip, Cake Stall, Book Stall, Toy Stall, “Record your own CD” and more!  The Prep School choir and Senior School choir provided some lovely, seasonal entertainment.

In the spring term, we were treated to a lively evening of entertainment courtesy of Boost Performing Arts Academy, under the direction of Amanda Goldthorpe-Hall.  The spectacular event - “Berkhamsted Broadway” -  saw the school hall packed with a hugely enthusiastic audience of  school students, parents and supporters of the Academy.  A healthy profit was made and we all had a fantastic time!  At Easter, a fundraising raffle was held for an Easter Basket laden with chocolate goodies.

Summer term was particularly busy.  The PTA supported the Year 11 Prom, organised 2 swimming parties (at Chesham Moor open air pool) for Years 4-6 and 7-10, ran a disco for Rainbow / Springboard, and finished with the Summer Party (strictly for adults) at Sarratt Village Hall.  Who could forget the entertainment by the “Tootsie Rollers,” with their toe-tapping dance routines and fabulous songs?!

The Easyfundraising initiative has provided a steady income stream throughout the past year and we hope that all PTA supporters will sign-up to this painless method of fundraising.  In 2009-10 the PTA funded or partially funded a number of important projects:  table tennis / athletics equipment, equipment for the new Senior School library, Cedar Rooms adventure trail, Senior School outdoor benches.  We can be very proud of those contributions.

So --- onwards and upwards for 2010-11!  If you would like actively to be involved in organising PTA events, please contact me or any other member of the committee.  If passive involvement is more achievable, then at least come along and enjoy the PTA events - your support is valued.

With very kind regards,
Karen Macaulay
