Welcome
If (like me) you wondered why there was no ERS Christmas Fayre in 2008,
it was because there was no active PTA to organize it … which started
me wondering whether I had the time, and energy, to volunteer as
Chair! A few enquiries with school confirmed that the PTA Treasurer
was still “active,” and that another mum had volunteered to act as
Secretary. So once more unto the breach etc, I offered my services. Fast forward to March 2009 when I chaired my first meeting. The
meeting was well attended and it was clear that a number of old hands –
as well as newbies - were keen to help the PTA back to its feet. In a
fairly short timescale we re-formed a committee, adopted a draft
constitution, initiated an ongoing fundraising initiative
(“easyfundraising”) and organized 5 social events for the summer term.
Not bad from a standing start!

And now, to herald the new academic year 09-10, we also have a PTA website. How’s that for progress? The site is still embryonic but we do hope, in time, that this medium will become the first reference point for PTA news - albeit backed up with the usual communications in the Weekly Times and all-school emails. On this website you will be able to find Contact Details, Diary Dates and many more details of PTA business.
Everybody has a skill / contribution they can bring to the PTA (reminds me of the Parable of the Talents), even if it’s as simple – yet valuable – as shifting furniture, sweeping a floor after an event, volunteering to man a stall, making cakes etc. We need organisers as well – those of you who can take onboard a project and see it through from start to finish. Returning to the previous time and energy equation, the committee can’t do it all – most of us live at a distance from school and we need your help. So PLEASE do think about giving your own time and energy, occasionally, to assist the PTA.
After all, it’s in the best cause – letting our kids know how much we love them, and how important their happiness, education and wellbeing is to us.
